Upcoming BlueBonnets shows

From KV's mailing-list

THURSDAY MARCH 15 AT 3:00
Ruby's Stardust Lounge SXSW party  FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC
Maria's Taco Express  2529 S. Lamar 78704
This is a very casual show featuring some of Austin's best performers in the courtyard, outdoors at Maria's Tacos. Each band plays a 30 min set and the changeovers are very quick.  There are tables and chairs but if you don't snag one, there are plenty of places to stand and still see the band.  Kid and food friendly!

SATURDAY MARCH 17 - 2 VERY DIFFERENT SHOWS at 1pm and 7pm
1pm: San Jose Hotel SXSW party FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC
This party attracts a crowd fun, cool people with an amazing line up of bands.  It's location makes it a good place to hang for the afternoon because there is so much to do on S. Congress; eat, shop, hear music.  You'll be on your feet but it's a great vibe, and not so crowded to be uncomfortable.  Kid friendly.

7pm: Austin 360 and Dogfish Head Industry of Music SXSW party FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC
Everyone loves the annual party hosted here; organizer Chris manages to put together a show that keeps people staying for hours in anticipation of what's coming onstage next.  Great location to wander downtown!  We take the earlier slot at 7 because the line outside the door gets out of control after that, and we want our friends inside, not standing on the sidewalk! In other words, get over there by 6:30 for your best bet at getting in and comfortable!  Definitely Grown-up friendly!

SUNDAY MARCH 18 at 3:45
Moms Rock; A Showcase Celebrating Motherhood and Music.  FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC
Happy Salon and Spa 1605 W. 6th Austin 78703
Sounds like a fun festival type show with door prizes, booths, food, sponsors, etc and several acts who have moms in their line-up! We are playing our longest set; an hour long, and look forward to being a part of this first time ever event. I would think this is extremely kid, even small kid, friendly!!

THURS MARCH 22 at 8pm
Tickets 12$
The Women of Antone's "For Etta" in memory of the great Etta James
Antone's Nightclub 213 W. 5th St. 78701
An incredible night with Austin music queens Carolyn Wonderland, Marcia Ball, Shelly King, Texas Guitar Women and the BlueBonnets!  We always love playing Antone's on the women's night, proud to share the stage with such inspiring and talent musicians.  Bar, tables, chairs, dancing. ok for kids (mine comes!) but really more of a grown-ups gig

Some great news

Much is going on in Go-Go Land these days.

- Belinda is moving back to LA part-time. She finally gets closer to the other girls. They're finally going to be able to practise more often.
- Belinda's brand new song Sun is to be released on May. We don't know yet if it's just gonna be a single or if a new album is on its way.
- Jane is starring in Three's Company (at Finn's Funhouse, San Francisco, CA) until March, 10th. Tickets here.
- Kathy has a few new songs of her own, she's waiting to have more before deciding what to do with them.
- Char and Kathy wrote a new song for the Go-Go's last year, Kathy sent it to Jane, Belinda and Gina to work on it. Hopefully we'll finally get some new Go-Go's material !
- Kathy has written songs for a new unamed all-female band she wants to produce very soon.
- The BlueBonnets have some shows coming in the next weeks, they have found a new drummer and are planning to release a new album in september (half of it is already done).

New Belinda songs (+ audio download)

Belinda sung two news songs on her latest shows at Bradford and Nottingham, UK. One is a cover of "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by the Monkees, the other is a great brand new song, "Sun" ! According to some sources, including James Duke Mason, Sun was written by Jane and Belinda (lyrics) and Gabe Lopez (music). Could it be the new Go-Go's songs Jane was talking about during the Ladies Gone Wild Tour ?

Thanks to Belindaboy for posting his videos.

Go-Go's on the net (Nov 2011) + New Jane song !!

Beware, folks ! Be ready to purchase Dan Sartain's new album "Too Tough To Love", due to release on January 30, 2012. Jane is going to be featured on the song "Now Now Now". Can't wait to hear a new song with Jane ! More details here.

Besides this great news, there have been some articles here and there worth reading :

- "80's darlings Go-Go's prove they still got the beat" (Goldmine)
A nice overview of the band's rise, demise and resurrection.

- "Old Music : Jane Wiedlin's "Rush Hour" (Guardian)
A flashback on Jane's biggest solo hit.

- "Gina Shock of the Go-Go's : Lips Unsealed" (Rockerzine)
A great interview of Gina. She talks about her early drumming days with Edith Massey and the Go-Go's, her favourite Go-Go's albums and the music industry today.

- And of course, you can still read Sarah Kramer's summer 2011 journal in case you missed it !

New KV online store

Kathy has opened an online store on her official website, where digital copies of these albums can be purchased :

- Delphines - Cosmic Speed (2001)
- Kathy Valentine - Light Years (2005)
- BlueBonnets - Boom Boom Boom Boom (2010)

5.99$ each ! Not too much for these gems.

This is great news for KV's fans, as Cosmic Speed and BBBB are quite hard to find on CD. Only the first 1997 Delphines album remains missing, but this one's really easy to find.

As a bonus, digital booklets are included. One question : do the Cosmic Speed and BBBB digital booklets include the song lyrics ? The physical booklets don't.

The Ladies Gone Wild Tour has just started !

Okay, time for some serious stuff ! The girls have already played at Las Vegas and Hershey. Seems like they rocked like hell ! The setlist is as follows (in disorder) :

This Town
Skidmarks On My Heart
Beatnik Beach / Surfing And Spying
How Much More
Fading Fast
Head Over Heels
Mad About You
Automatic
Lust To Love
Mother's Little Helper

The setlist already divides the fans : some think it's too much of the same as the previous tour. Well I think all that matters is to be able to see them play, right ? ;)

Some Las Vegas videos :

BEATNIK BEACH / SURFING AND SPYING

OUR LIPS ARE SEALED

THIS TOWN

WE GOT THE BEAT

Belinda and James Duke Mason interview

The Advocate website published a couple of days ago an interview of Belinda and her son, in which they discuss James' coming-out and related stuff.

I didn't even know Belinda's son was gay, this is the first time I see him and he really seems like an awesome and inspiring man to me. Looking forward to hear more of him !

Beauty And The Beat 30th Anniversary Edition

YAY ! I got the CD and vinyl in my mail today ! Some pictures :

The first CD is, as you all know, the original remastered album. The difference between old and new wasn't very noticable to me until I compaired back to back the same song on both editions. You can hear Gina's drums and Kathy's bass more clearly. Surfing And Spying would have been a welcome addition, as well as any studio outtake. The real treat comes from CD 2, a previously unreleased live show (Metro Club, Boston, 1981-08-20). The sounds is quite metallic sometimes but it's fine, and you can often hear Char sing backups more clearly than ever. It is overall a great show, when the girls performed Vacation for the first time. A piece of history !

Oh and the pink vinyl is so nice ! Just one BIG complaint : no poster ??!

What is your favourite cover ?

Let's hope Vacation and Talk Show get the DeLuxe treatment too soon ;) And why not RTTVOTGG with some 94/95 unreleased demos ?

We Got The Beat (2011-05-24 DWTS season finale)

Right before starting their Ladies Gone Wild Tour, the girls have granted us a great TV performance at the Dancing With The Stars season finale. They seem ready to rock and kick some ass ! Watch and enjoy :

Why posting this when it has already been done everywhere else ? Well as a small bonus, here’s the audio file of the performance. No silly dancers in there ! ;)

New Go-Go's songs coming soon ?

Okay, here's what Jane recently said :

"We've talked about it for years. It's one of those ongoing conversations. I was thinking about how few records we actually have made in our 33 years and how we could be doing a lot better. Because the Go-Go's isn't a full-time band anymore and the fact we've scattered over the whole world, it makes it really hard to commit to things like making records. But having said that, now that the interwebs are so big and people release one song at a time… the structure of making music has become less rigid. So I'd like to think that, yes, we will have new music coming. Over the course of a year everyone just started re-thinking that idea [the Farewell tour] and ultimately we decided we shouldn't say it's a farewell tour this year. I was not happy about it, anyway; I want to be a 90-year-old Go-Go someday. I love being a Go-Go. It definitely has its ups and downs, and we have a very intense energy with each other. Sometimes it's amazing fun, and it's always magical when we play live together. And sometimes we are just such a pain in the ass to each other, like, we all get on each other's nerves because we've all known each other for so long. Basically it's a five-way marriage that's gone on for 33 years — and will keep going if I have anything to say about it."

Isn't this awesome ? Girls, I'm waiting for some new songs !
